Client: Putney Wharf Residential Development
Location: London SW15
Contractor: Future Lighting and Electrical
Ongoing Partnership Since: 2022
Project Overview:
Following the appointment of a new site management team, Putney Wharf embarked on a mission to transform the development and surrounding areas—starting with electrical safety, lighting compliance, and energy efficiency improvements. Recognising the site had suffered from years of poor maintenance, the team turned to Future Lighting and Electrical to restore compliance, improve safety, and guide a long-term upgrade strategy.
Future Lighting was first instructed to conduct a series of critical compliance works, including:
- Annual PAT Testing
- Annual 3-Hour Emergency Lighting Test & Inspection
- NICEIC 5-Year Fixed Wire Testing & Reporting (EICR)
These inspections revealed widespread deficiencies and outdated infrastructure, confirming that the call to Future Lighting couldn’t have come at a better time.
Over the last two years, Future Lighting has continued to provide reliable compliance support and deliver phased lighting upgrades with strategic prioritisation—addressing key areas and working closely with site management to align with available budgets and long-term development goals.
Primary Objectives of the Project
- Achieve Full Electrical Compliance
Conduct all required statutory inspections and remedial works to bring the site in line with safety and legislative standards. - Replace Failing Lighting Infrastructure
Gradually upgrade internal and external lighting systems that had been neglected for years and were no longer fit for purpose. - Establish a Modern, Energy-Efficient System
Transition the site toward a complete LED lighting solution with smart controls to reduce consumption and improve long-term efficiency. - Prioritise Emergency Lighting & Safety
Upgrade key escape routes first with compliant, combined emergency lighting, ensuring safe egress even during budget-sensitive phases. - Build a Long-Term, Trust-Based Relationship
Provide expert advice and consistent support, working collaboratively with the on-site team to plan and deliver a phased improvement strategy.
Steps of Implementation
- Initial Compliance Inspections & Testing
Future Lighting began by completing critical compliance services, including annual PAT testing, 3-Hour emergency lighting testing, and the full NICEIC EICR programme. These reports formed the foundation for a larger improvement plan. - Identification of Maintenance Deficiencies
Inspection results confirmed extensive gaps in maintenance and compliance. Priority remedial actions were clearly defined and presented to the client for transparent decision-making. - Phased Upgrade Strategy
Working in accordance with Section 20 requirements, Future Lighting developed a phased approach to remedial works and lighting upgrades, allowing improvements to progress in line with budget availability. - External Lighting Enhancements
Select sections of the development’s external areas were upgraded with high-quality LED lighting, improving security, aesthetics, and nighttime visibility. - Internal Emergency Lighting Upgrade
Key escape routes within the building were targeted first, with new combined emergency lighting systems installed to ensure safe evacuation in case of emergency. - Ongoing Maintenance & Support
Annual testing procedures continue to be conducted by Future Lighting, ensuring ongoing compliance and a consistent standard of care. - Professional Collaboration On-Site
A strong working relationship was formed between Future Lighting’s engineering team and the on-site management team, built on trust, expertise, and open communication.
Results & Benefits
- Restored Electrical Compliance Across the Development
All critical testing and certification requirements are now met, with full NICEIC and PAT documentation provided annually. - Targeted, Budget-Smart Improvements
A phased strategy ensures high-priority areas are addressed first, allowing compliance and efficiency gains without financial strain. - Enhanced External & Emergency Lighting
Residents and visitors now benefit from improved safety and comfort, thanks to upgraded external areas and well-illuminated escape routes. - Increased Energy Efficiency with LED Technology
Upgraded lighting sections are now running on efficient LED systems, reducing energy usage and associated costs. - Long-Term Partnership & Support
Future Lighting continues to work hand-in-hand with the on-site team, supporting ongoing upgrades and offering expert guidance as the project evolves.
