Instructing Party: Samantha Leonard, Senior Block Manager

Project Overview

In collaboration with the management company, we identified the main car park as the ideal location for the EV charging solution. The installation serves 14 of the 20 available bays, including designated visitor parking. The charging stations operate on a “charge and move” system to ensure efficient use of space, allowing residents to access the bays as needed.

An initial energy assessment revealed that the site’s existing electrical supply was insufficient to support the charging stations. To address this, we coordinated closely with UK Power Networks (UKPN) to arrange a new dedicated power supply. A GRP feeder cabinet, discreetly placed in the gardened area along the site boundary, houses the new supply, metering, and all essential mains distribution and circuit protection.

To prevent overloads and enhance efficiency, smart load-balancing technology was integrated into the system, ensuring even distribution of the electrical load across all active charging stations.

Installation Details

Given the open design of the car park, we carefully planned all civil works to preserve the estate’s aesthetics and landscaping. The charging stations are mounted on custom-built timber posts that blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment and complement existing estate furniture.

The entire system is now fully operational and integrated with the Future-Tap billing platform, providing residents with an easy, efficient way to access and manage their EV charging needs.
